I AM God.

“Why do the nations say, “Where is their God?”  Our God is in heaven; He does whatever pleases him.” Psalm 115:2-3

When the gangs began to bring chaos into the streets of Haiti, one of the most troubling thoughts that perplexed me were the supplies of food stored at Trinity HOPE schools in Haiti.  Many of the storage sites that I saw were not totally secure by my standards.  This is Haiti.  If I could kick down their door then I knew that a few gang members to do that too.  God watches over those supplies.

A few weeks ago, I heard that a small group of gang members, possibly 4 or 5 went to one of the schools in Port-au-Prince with a Trinity HOPE feeding program and gathered up as many boxes and bags of food in mid-morning and headed out into the street.  Their guns were hanging from their arms and their hands were holding onto their stolen supplies when a crowd from the neighborhood over powered them, killed them and returned the food to the school where many of their children attended.  God was watching over those parents and those supplies.  The Haitian police came and gathered the guns and the bodies and left.  These same gang members had killed police, raped women, chased people from their home and stolen everything they could during their short reign of terror.

I struggle with this report as we are taught not to kill.  The chaos in Haiti really needs to end.  If the gang members will not put down their arms and repent of their crimes and face justice…then God’s people will rise up.  God is watching over every life in every neighborhood where gang driven chaos is still tormenting His children.  God is watching and does as He wishes.

It is difficult to make some sense of what is happening in Haiti today.  If I could figure it out, I'd qualify as His adviser, and the Scripture makes it clear that He doesn't need my short-sighted, insignificant counsel.  He’s on top of this problem.  He is taking care of it in His time and in His way.  I’ve been told that one of the marks of spiritual maturity is the quiet confidence that God is in control, without the need to understand why He does what He does.  God has this in His hands.

Heavenly Father, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.  Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  Amen.

May God be with you,

Jay
