The Baby.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5

Who was this baby born in Bethlehem?  Was this really the promised Messiah?  How would this small baby lying in a manger in Bethlehem save the world?  The Angels told the world that this was indeed to Savior of the World.  The world had trouble accepting this truth at that time and still wrestles with this truth today.  In Matthew 19:26 Jesus tells the disciples “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  Once again, it is not about us, it is about what He did for us on that still, silent night so long ago in a manger in Bethlehem.

His Gospel light shines brightly in this dark world.  His truth is above reproach.  Our Heavenly Father loves all the children in Haiti and around the world, loves you and loves me.  That truth remains in each of us and at this time of year we need to share it with those who have not heard or are helplessly focused on the things of this world instead of the Savior of this world.  I close with the words to the song ‘Oh Holy Night’ what was written by Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure in 1877.

“Oh holy night!  The stars are brightly shining, it is the night of the dear Savior's birth!  Long lay the world in sin and error pining till he appear'd and the soul felt its worth.  A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!  Fall on your knees; Oh hear the angel voices.  Oh night divine, Oh night when Christ was born.  Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming with glowing hearts by His cradle we stand so led by light of a star sweetly gleaming.  Here come the wise men from Orient land; the King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger in all our trials born to be our friend.  Truly He taught us to love one another.  His law is love and His gospel is peace.  Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother and in His name all oppression shall cease.  Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, let all within us praise His holy name.  Fall on your knees; Oh hear the angel voices.  Oh night divine, Oh night when Christ was born.”

Dear Heavenly Father, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.  Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  Amen.

May God be with you…Jay
