Black Friday

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

Material possessions in North America mean a lot to us; the more stuff that you have the better your life is, the higher up the food chain you have risen.  This day has been wisely designated Black Friday by a group of businesses and ‘we’ are supposed to rush out today and buy the perfect gifts for those we love.  The perfect gift is something that we will remember until next year.  What was the best gift you received last year?  I have attached a photo of mine and I am going to enjoy this many more years.  How can a photo and a calendar be the best gifts?  Trust me, I see them every day and I love them.  Satan tells us that we need more of this and that; more money will bring us more happiness.  His lies keep nagging at us and it is good to slow down and think of the very best and perfect gift that really matters; year after year.  True happiness comes from knowing and living for Jesus Christ; that happiness is eternal.  Don’t be blinded by the lies of this world.  Don’t let your ears and mind be numbed by the words of the liar of this world telling you that more is always better.  You want true riches and the best gift ever; turn to Jesus.  I close with the words from the song ‘Shout to the Lord’ that I heard Randy Travis sing recently.

“My Jesus, My Savior, Lord, there is none like You; all of my days I want to praise the wonders of Your mighty love.  My comfort, my shelter, tower of refuge and strength; let every breath, all that I am never cease to worship You.  Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing.  Power and majesty, praise to the King; mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of Your name.  I sing for joy at the work of Your hands, forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand, nothing compares to the promise I have in You.”

Dear Heavenly Father, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.  Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  Amen.

May God be with you…Jay
