A Firm Foundation.

“But now, this is what the Lord says; he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.  For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.  Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.” Isaiah 43:1-4

These four Haitian women, three teachers and the principal at Bon Berger Lutherienne Ecole in Caredeux are holding the Foundation of their Faith in our Triune God.  God’s Word is what their students are learning every day and also how to read, write and do arithmetic, science and a foreign language; they are building a firm foundation for their future temple.  Consider where we would be today if we were not firmly grounded in His Word every day in this world of lies and distractions; sinking sand.  Please prayerfully consider helping to provide physical nourishment to the students in Haiti attending Christian schools through a Trinity/HOPE school feeding program.  I am closing today with the words from the hymn ‘How firm a Foundation, ye saints of the Lord’ that were written by George Keith in 1787.

“How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!  What more can He say than to you He hath said who unto the Savior for refuge have fled?  In every condition, in sickness, in health, in poverty's vale, or abounding in wealth, at home and abroad, on the land, on the sea, the Lord, the Almighty, they strength e'er shall be.  "Fear not, I am with thee, oh, be not dismayed, for I am thy God and will still give thee aid; I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.  When through the deep waters I call thee to go, the rivers of sorrow shall not overflow; for I will be with thee thy troubles to bless and sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.  When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie, My grace, all-sufficient, shall be thy supply.  The flames shall not hurt thee; I only design thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine.  E'en down to old age all My people shall prove My sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love; and when hoary hairs shall their temples adorn, like lambs they shall still in My bosom be borne.  The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose I will not, I will not, desert to his foes; that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, I'll never, no never, no never, forsake!"

Dear Heavenly Father, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.  Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  Amen.

May God be with you…Jay
