God is Great!

“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me; the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” Acts 20:24

Thank you for praying for Haiti.  At 6:50 yesterday morning a text appeared on my phone from Denise Gudlin sharing a text that was from Pastor Gergens in Cap Haitian saying “thank you for your prayers…God is Great! We have been spared.”  An hour later the Haitian government issued news that the storm damage throughout the country was minimal; schools would resume on Monday.  We continue to pray for those who have been affected by this storm and those who wait as the storm draws closer.  I read this morning a post from LCMS Seminary President Meyer that had a map of the U.S. that showed how many states where Christians were no longer in the majority.  As we pray for those in harm’s way of storms we also pray for those who have turned away from the cross of Christ and are living for this world.  Heavenly Father, keep us ever in Your Word and may your Holy Spirit continue to draw us closer to Christ as many in this world run farther away from the Truth.  I am closing today with the words from the hymn ‘Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Thy Word’ that were written by Martin Luther in 1541.

“Lord, keep us steadfast in Thy Word; curb those who fain by craft and sword would wrest the Kingdom from Thy Son and set at naught all He hath done.  Lord Jesus Christ, Thy power make known, for Thou art Lord of lords alone; defend Thy Christendom that we may evermore sing praise to Thee.  O Comforter of priceless worth.  Send peace and unity on earth.  Support us in our final strife and lead us out of death to life.”

Dear Heavenly Father, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.  Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  Amen.

May God be with you…Jay
