News from Trinity/HOPE

Trinity/HOPE is blessed to have support for its feeding programs for the hungry children in Christian Schools in Haiti. Each month we provide an article which can be published in church newsletters to aid in updating and keeping our supporters current on our programs.

I am writing this one day after the horrific 7.0 earthquake struck the country of Haiti. It is such a devastating blow. At this point we can not get through to anyone there by land line or cell phones. We do know that it is possible to communicate via email. We have written many and received one very brief one. With each of our people having so many personal things to which they must attend, the lines to the cyber cafés (Even if they are functioning, I estimate 8 to 10 hours wait.) are probably just too long to make communication practical at this point.

By the time you read this, the situation will have changed and we will probably not be in this same place. But, right now, our plan is for Trinity/HOPE to do all it can to see that our current programs continue in the schools that are able to function (Only those in Port au Prince seem to be in question). In addition it would be a great blessing if we could raise funds to begin programs in new schools. We would certainly give priority to new schools in the most severely hit areas. What a blessing it would be for displaced and hungry families to have one of Trinity/HOPE’s programs begin at their children’s school assuring them of a good meal each day! Further we will assist people who want to connect in other ways to find groups whose functions serve specific needs which are of interest to them.

This is a dark time for Haiti and an anxious one for Trinity/HOPE as we await news on the safety of our people, friends and schools. But we are confident good will come through this tragedy, possibly in all the areas listed below.

1. People will become more aware of the great needs which exist in Haiti.
2. Support may be increased and action may be started to find solutions to some of Haiti’s long term problems.
3. The difference in the way the Christian Community approaches the problem with care, love and assistance and Voodoo ignores the needs of the people will be readily apparent to all the people.
4. Our Christian brothers and sisters will be Christ like examples and living testimonies as they work side by side with their neighbors.

God will be glorified because we know “that in all things [including 7.0 earthquakes] God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
